Stavroula Patrikakou
Laser Dental Surgeon DDS, MD, MSc
I graduated from the Dental School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2006, and since then, I have been continuously working in the field of dentistry, with a special focus on aesthetic and restorative dentistry, as well as periodontology. Having worked in dental practices of all specialties from my first year of studies, I had the opportunity to build a solid foundation for the development of knowledge and skills, which has significantly helped me in my professional journey.
My journey in the field of lasers started in 2004 when I first came into contact with their applications at the Western Attica Hospital “Agia Barbara,” where I volunteered until 2009. From the beginning, even before lasers were fully integrated into academic programs, I was fascinated by this field, and it continues to captivate me to this day as the constant evolution of technology opens new horizons in patient care.
In 2009, I attended the postgraduate program of the Sola Laser Academy, in collaboration with the University of Vienna, acquiring my first academic specialization in the laser field. From 2009 to 2013, I volunteered at the Hippocratic University Hospital in the maxillofacial surgery department. At the same time, I collaborated with Doctors SOS, providing home emergency dental care to patients with severe health issues.
From 2012 to 2014, I volunteered with Doctors of the World, where I had the honor of participating in the “Adamantiada” program. As part of this program, I contributed both to prevention and education about oral health and to the restoration of dental problems in people with limited access to dental services. This experience allowed me to offer substantial help to vulnerable populations while deepening my understanding of the social aspect of dental care.
In 2015, I obtained the Laser Safety Officer certification from the University of Aachen in Germany, and in 2016, I completed the Master Diploma “Lasers in Dentistry” from the same university. In 2021, I completed my Master’s degree with distinction at the University of Genoa, focusing on laser dental applications. My dissertation focused on Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM), a revolutionary treatment with miraculous effects on tissue regeneration and pain reduction, offering remarkable benefits for patient health.
I had the honor and the fortune to be taught by renowned academics in the laser field, such as the late Prof. Dr. Norbert Gutknecht from the University of Aachen and Prof. Alberico Benedicenti and Prof. Stefano Benedicenti from the University of Genoa, who are pioneers in the research of Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM).
In 2020, my clinic was certified for the use of the Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) technique, a modern and minimally invasive approach for the removal of dental biofilm, which offers superior care and promotes gum health.
In 2022, I completed the postgraduate program of LA&HA (Laser & Health Academy) in Ljubljana on Laser Facial Aesthetics, broadening the range of laser aesthetic applications I offer to my patients.
Since 2011, I have been maintaining my private dental practice, and I collaborate with numerous clinics as a specialized partner in laser applications. I have participated as a speaker in postgraduate seminars on laser applications in dentistry. I regularly attend seminars and academic programs, staying updated on developments in aesthetic and restorative dentistry, as well as in the constantly evolving field of lasers.
